Do You Wish To See The Lord Jesus Christ?

Do you wish to see the Lord Jesus Christ? Do you really want to meet Him? Get to know Him? Allow Him to be your friend and guide every day?

The invitation that the Apostle Philip gave when Nathaniel questioned him about Jesus was very simple, and very practical - "Come and see." (St. John 1:46).

What was possible when our Lord Jesus Christ walked this earth - actually seeing Him and talking with Him - would seem to be impossible today for us, who live not only thousands of miles from where He lives, but also some two thousand years apart.

But we must repeat the question: Do you wish to see the Lord Jesus Christ?

After His Resurrection, Jesus made this promise to His disciples: "Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." (St. Matthew 28:20).

He has kept that promise, down through the centuries, for He is with us through the presence in our lives of His Holy Spirit, Who lives within us, if we ask Him, and reveals Jesus to us in all His love and glory.

St. Peter of Damascus tells us this spiritual truth: "Christ is hidden in the Gospel. He who wishes to find Him must sell all his possessions and buy the Gospel, so as to seek Him not without but within oneself… and receive Him within oneself by imitating His life in the world."

Christ our Lord is not for those who do not believe in the Gospel; they do not see Him, because, sadly, they are blinded by unbelief.

Do you have the Old and New Testaments in your home? When was the last time you read these Holy Books? When was the last time your read the Holy Gospels of Saints Matthew, Mark, Luke or John? Then again when was the last time you attended the Matins service in the Orthodox Church, and venerated the Holy Gospel, when the priest brought it out from the Holy Altar? Even more importantly, when was the last time you venerated the words of Jesus Christ our Lord and true God?

Through the teachings found in the Holy Gospels we learn how to be like our Lord Jesus Christ: how to love, and how to be compassionate. We learn to forgive, and be merciful. We find joy, grace, and multitude of blessings as we progress down this spiritual path. More and more clearly we see Christ our Lord.

We also see Christ our Lord when we help others, and have concern for their sufferings, and hardships. This is practical! Can you help with feeding the hungry or homeless? In this we find Christ and see Him. Could you volunteer to help the elderly and youth in your community? How about offering to assist your parish priest meet the many needs of the faithful, who are humbly reaching out for your loving kindness? In all these works of mercy and love we now see Christ our Lord.

Read and live the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ and you will find Him.

Peace to your soul!

Humbly In Christ Our Lord,

Who prays for you!
