Nativity Of Our Jesus Christ
Nativity Of Our Jesus Christ
Is Born!

Compiled by
Father Demetrios Serfes

As all good Loving souls prepare for our Lord's Holy Nativity, nothing is so important at this time to remember this is a holy and sacred time, the birth of our Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ! It is He to whom we must remember that we "Glorify"!  We Glorify Him, who was born for our salvation. "Christ Is Born"!

The following beautiful and spiritually rewarding hymn-katavasia is sung in the Eastern Orthodox Church on the Feast of our Lord's Holy Nativity, and throughout the Feast, which is a poem by Kosmas the Melodios, Bishop of Maiouma.  Actually Bishop Kosmas compiled this poem from the Exaltations sermon of St. Gregory the Theologian which begins with the very same words, "Christ is born; glorify Him..."

Christ is born; glorify Him.
Christ is from heaven;
go and meet Him.
Christ is on earth;  be exalted.
O All the earth, sing unto
the Lord in gladness all ye people,
sing praises unto Him for He is glorified."
Saint Nikodemos of the Holy Mountain gives us an account of the meaning of this beautiful Church katavasia from "The Festal Sermons".

"Christ is from heaven; go and meet Him."  The very name Christ reveals the Lord's human nature as much as it does His divine. At this instance, the usage of Christ reveals the Lord's divine nature because the Only Begotten Son and Word of God came down to the earth in His bare divinity alone.

"Christ is on earth; go and meet Him".  The usage of Christ hear reveals the Lord's divine and human nature.  This is because God and man was born of the Virgin Mary.  And as God and man He appears on the earth.

The person of God-man (Theanthropos) Jesus Christ has two natures then; the divine and the human; united, unconfused, without change or alteration - one person (hypostasis).

"Christ is born" then "glorify Him" you angels with the "glory to God in the highest and on earth peace" (Lk. 2:14).  Glorify Him and go meet Him all people, following the example of the Righteous Simeon who met the Savior in the temple when Mary the Theotokos (Birth-giver of God) took Him there for His 40-day blessing (Lk. 2:25-32).

"Christ is on earth; be exalted."  Be exalted all people, for the mundane are now adorned on high with the things of heaven!  Now that Christ has come to the earth you can ascend the heavens and become like our first created ancestors Adam and Eve before the sin of disobedience.

"O All the earth sing unto the Lord." Sing with joy, glorifying the New-born Messiah, Savior and Deliverer, Jesus Christ.

May you and your loved ones, during the Feast days of our Lord's Holy Nativity,  find it deep within all your mind, heart, and soul the Glory of our God!  A Blessed glorious Feast of our Lord's Nativity!  May the peace and the love of our Lord God be with you all!

   Christ Is Born!  Glorify Him!

New Born Savior Jesus Christ,
