The Children of Christ's Holy Resurrection
The Eastern Orthodox Church and its faithful children are preparing our Lord's Holy Glorious Resurrection, which will be celebrated this year on April 11th.
As we write these words, the time left of this period of the Holy Fast is getting shorter, and we eagerly look forward to the wonderful moment when the midnight hour of our Lord's Holy Resurrection arrives, our hearts fill with joy, and we can exclaim "He is Risen!"
But what is that we are celebrating? AT the center of our joy is the simple yet profound truth that Christ our Lord died for us. This was a voluntary act - He gave Himself up to be crucified - so that death may no longer have any power over us, and may no longer be considered a punishment for us, a punishment we deserve because of our sins. Instead, His sacrifice is the way and means to the Resurrection and life everlasting. Christ, our loving Lord, has given us a second birth by His Resurrection, so we have become, as the Holy Scripture says, "children of the Resurrection". In other words, we are children over whom death has no sovereignty. "But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain the world, and the resurrection from the dead neither marry, nor are given in marriage: Neither can they die any more; for they are equal unto (like) the angels, and are the children of God, being of the resurrection" (St. Luke 20:35-36). From this it is clear how Christ our Lord became the second Adam, through whose death and resurrection from the dead, we were born again into everlasting life. The first Adam disobeyed God, and died. Jesus, the second Adam, was totally obedient, defeating death and filling us, who believe in Him, with His life.
Through the Holy Mystery of Baptism we are reborn spiritually through His living body by water and the Holy Spirit. Christ has shown us just how important this is, especially after His Resurrection - as we see at the end of every Gospel - because when we are reborn though Christ living body, we are instantly transformed into the children of the Living God - Children of the Resurrection - Children of the cross, the blood and empty grave over whom death no longer has power.
Then finally we fully participate in the Glorious Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ when we partake of His most precious body and blood in Holy Communion. Through the Holy Eucharist, we receive the Resurrection as a power that flows in our soul giving it spiritual energy, nourishment, light, holiness, purity and everything necessary for everlasting life. This is the way to Paradise for all the children of the Resurrection. Every time we eat and bread of Holy Eucharist and drink from the cup we are confirmed in us day after day so that we may fulfill the will of the Father as children of the Resurrection. It is a joyful truth that the Holy Eucharist is foreshadowing of the food the wedding guests will be invited to eat with the Lamb in eternal life. Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife (that is, the Church) has made herself read. (Revelation 19:7).
So let us humbly prepare ourselves, as loving children, for our participation in the Holy Paschal Divine Liturgy, and partake of the most precious body and blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Let us draw near with love to the Resurrected Christ who loves all His children.
May all of us, the true loving Children of our Living God, behold and taste the Glorious Resurrection of Christ our Lord with joy, and everlasting life.
CHRIST IS RISEN!
TRULY HE IS RISEN!
In the love of His Glorious Resurrection,
